At Soft Furnishing Industries, Window Headings refer to the items that usually support the tracks that drapes or blinds may fit into. As well as this function, window headings are often decorative and tie in the fabrics used in the other areas of the room. Valances, Pelmets and Swags & Tails are the most popular window headings that we make.
Valances can be made to fit onto a headboard with fastening tape or directly onto a track using hooks. Valances typically have a short drop (25 to 45cm) and can be headed with any of the headings used for drapes, including headings such as box pleat or inverted box pleat that are not often used for drapes but provide a flatter finish to the valance. In addition to the regular headings, there are numerous styles of valances that can be made. Variations on standard valances include a shaped base or jardiniere, austrian or festoon valances as well as the myriad of frills, trims and fringing that can be used. Soft Furnishing Industries use glue tape on the valance base hem to avoid unsightly stitch marks wherever possible.
Pelmets are constructed with a wooden headboard which is normally fixed but can be made with fastening tape for very large or continuous bay window pelmets which makes transport and installation extremely simple. Virtually any design is possible and we hold a huge variety of standard designs including insert designs. Every pelmet is piped along the base and padded to soften the look.
Swags & Tails are attached to a headboard at the top of curtains in a semi-circular shape so that the material appears to fall either side of the window into a cascading tail. As with pelmets, there is a huge range of choice in designing the right set of swags & tails for your room. Contrasting colours may be used and, on tails especially, create a fashionable trim to set off the heading. Swags may be made in alternating colours or even overlapped in a variety of patterns to create a truly original look for your room. As well as traditional swags on a headboard, swags are often placed on decorative poles.
